Assam Mangalam Tea - Strong Black Tea Second Flush (BPS - Broken Pekoe Souchong)

Broken and then granulated leaves provide Assam Mangalam Tea with a dark mahogany infusion and a bright, rich, full-bodied, malty and exquisitely smooth flavour. An ideal strong breakfast tea. Good with milk. Too strong for some, but deservedly popular.

Second Flush teas are harvested at the start of the summer season. First Flush teas are produced from leaves gathered in the first harvest of the year and have a lighter flavour profile that is best enjoyed without milk, whilst Second Flush teas are harvested in late Spring / early Summer and typically have deeper, more rounded flavour profiles that can be enjoyed with a dash of milk, or without.

Our Assam Mangalam tea has been produced using the CTC - Crush Tear Curl method which cuts the tea leaves into small pieces. This allows a greater depth of flavour of the tea to be extracted from the leaves, typically resulting in a strong infusion that works well with milk.

First planted in the 1970's, the Mangalam Tea Estate is one of India’s finest tea gardens. Modern cultivating techniques enable the estate to produce a high yield of fine quality tea. Unlike Darjeeling teas, where the first flush is highly prized, second flush Assam teas are valued for their deep, malty flavours.
