Bamboo Matcha Whisk - Chasen
Bamboo Matcha Whisk - Chasen - This traditional bamboo whisk, also known as a Chasen, is an essential accessory for making Japanese Matcha tea.
How to Prepare Matcha Tea:
Matcha is a 'short' drink. A common method of preparation is as follows: About 2-4 g of matcha powder is placed into a matcha bowl - Chawan - traditionally using a bamboo spoon called a Chashaku, a little water is added and the matcha is stirred to form a fine paste. Approximately 60–80 ml of hot water (80-95 c) is added to the bowl. The mixture is then whisked briskly using a 'W' movement to mix the ingredients and create a light foam, using the bamboo whisk - Chasen. The tea is consumed immediately. It can be sipped, or drunk in one go.
Matcha has an intense, slightly bitter flavour, rich in umami, and is commonly consumed alongside traditional Japanese sweets to offset the astringency. It is high in caffeine and antioxidants.
Tip: You may need to experiment to perfect your technique and find the method that works best for you. Try varying the amount of matcha powder (1g to 4g) and the water temperature (60 to 95c) to find the strength of flavour, water temperature, and consistency that you personally enjoy.
Matcha Bowl - Chawan and Matcha Spoon - Chashaku are available separately.
