Sheng Puerh Cake
These Sheng Puerh cakes from Yunnan Province in China offer the tea enthusiast the opportunity to enjoy the distinctive and delicious earthy flavours of naturally aged and fermented Puerh Dark tea. Sheng Puerh is also known as Raw Puerh due to the traditional, slow fermentation process.
Small pieces of tea are flaked off the cake using a Puerh knife. These flakes are then infused and the remainder of the cake is wrapped and stored for future use.
Once brewed the tea has a dark, almost black colour, and a deliciously deep, mellow, earthy flavour that can be experienced over multiple infusions.
For many generations, fermented tea cakes have been transported from the Puerh region of Western China, through the mountain passes along the arduous & mythical Tea Horse Road trading routes to Tibet. In Tibet the tea is highly regarded and traditionally drunk for its health benefits, and to supplement the poor local diet.
Sipping a cup of freshly infused Sheng Puerh tea is best appreciated as a mindful experience that needs quiet space, a quiet mind, time and a calm environment.
