Shou Puerh Fermented Tea
Discover the deep, smooth & mellow flavours of Shou Puerh Fermented Tea. This ripe Shou Puerh fermented tea is produced in Yunnan province in Western China.
Fermented tea helps the digestive system and body function. The dark infusion is almost black in colour with a distinctive peaty aroma and a smooth, round earthy aftertaste. Despite its dark colour this ancient fermented tea is mellow and not astringent.
Fermented tea (also known as post-fermented tea or dark tea) is a category of tea that has undergone microbial fermentation. The length of the fermentation process varies from several weeks to many years. The Puerh region in Yunnan province, Western China is famous for producing fermented teas. There are two types of Puerh tea:
Ripe Shou Puerh & Raw Sheng Puerh.
Ripe Shou Puerh is a relatively modern innovation. The leaves are processed using a faster fermentation process that enables the tea to be produced to a high quality at a more affordable price point. Rather like a good bottle of wine ...
Raw Sheng Puerh is naturally fermented and takes longer to mature, developing more nuanced flavour profiles. Raw Sheng Puerh is typically sold as compressed cakes and bricks. Like vintage wine, the flavour of rare or aged examples continues to evolve and improve with age and the finest examples can attract very high prices.
